The challenge

NERF Blasters are a popular toy amongst kids, teenagers, and adults a-like. Ever since the popularity of Nerf Blasters, it has been a great dream and hobby for foam warriors to play in the great outdoors. Whether you are a kid playing in the garden with friends, a family enjoying a fun NERF Battle, or enjoy sci-fi/apocalypse LARPs(Live action role-playing games) that take place outside; Nerf Blasters are a source of endless fun for everyone and every age. However, their foam bullets are hazardous to the environment, leaving NERF players unable to enjoy the product outside with friends guilt-free. When NERF Bullets are inevitably left in the outdoor environment, due to their non-biodegradable polyurethane foam material, they can cause pollution, block drains, and harm animals.

The solution

Our solution is to propose the production of biodegradable NERF bullets. These bullets, while still staying true to the "Re-use" concept of Nerf bullets, will create less damage to the environment in the long term in the case of the inevitable netherNerf superposition happening (making it impossible to recover all darts as they have seemingly just vanished into thin air), as well as making the production substantially more environmentally friendly due to less energy and water consumption of biodegradable (or compostable) foam, compared to the current partially reticulated polyether type polyurethane foam of the bullets. We see that HASBRO has already ceased the use of plastic packaging in the name of sustainability, but we want to take it a step further to both increase sustainable toys and thus also increase the user experience by giving them the opportunity to take their fun outside into the wild; Fully guilt-free!
